Search graduate awards & scholarships

UVic provides awards to graduate students of high academic standing. The distribution, value and duration of these awards and fellowships are determined by each academic unit.

FGS has a general graduate scholarship application which is accessible via a student's Online Tools, Financial Aid. The application is open between July 01 and September 15. All required documents must be received to FGS by the required deadline.

Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Master's program

The CGRS-M program helps develop research skills and assists in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.

Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Doctoral program

The Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Doctoral (CGRS D) program is a scholarship in the Canada Research Training Awards Suite (CRTAS) administered by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

British Columbia Graduate Scholarship (BCGS)

The Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills funds the British Columbia Graduate Scholarship (BCGS) program to support excellence in British Columbia’s graduate programs.

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

The German Academic Exchange Service - Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) - provides study and research scholarships to highly qualified graduate students.

UVic internal deadline: Tuesday, October 15, 2024. DAAD external deadline: Thursday, October 31, 2024.
Varies: includes monthly amount, travel allowance, health insurance costs, and optional German language course. Successful recipients may apply for further funding for rent subsidies, accompanying family members, and costs associated with a disability or chronic illness.
Jim Ounsworth Graduate Scholarship for Indigenous Students

Two scholarships of $15,000 each are awarded to academically outstanding Canadian-born Indigenous graduate students entering the University of Victoria, with preference for students with demonstrated financial need.

WestGrid Scholarship for Graduate Indigenous Students

A scholarship of at least $10,000 is awarded to an academically outstanding Canadian-born Indigenous graduate student entering the University of Victoria.

Fanny Williams Huu-ay-aht First Nation Scholarship

A scholarship of $1,000 is awarded to an entering, continuing or transferring Indigenous undergraduate or graduate student from the Huu-ay-aht First Nation. The student must have demonstrated community involvement.

David F. Strong Research Scholarship

One (1) David F. Strong Research Scholarship will be awarded to graduate students who currently hold a Canadian federal research council scholarship valued between $17,500 and $35,000.
